Pretty self-explanatory. It's a page about music *wink*

Musician of the month

Name: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

This band were initially lumped in the with the post-Strokes new wave boom, but they are in fact a very different beast. Their graceful, dark melodies combine with upbeat drums and hazy lyrics to make for a trippy and emotional experience. B.R.M.C. consists of Robert Turner (vocals/bass), Peter Hayes (vocals/guitar), Nick Jago (drums/percussion), and their shimmering debut came out in 2001. In between hanging with New York's hippest, they've found time to make second album Take Them On, On Your Own. It rocks harder than their previous album, but retains the mystery and epic quality that makes anthems like Whatever happned to my Rock'n'RollSpread Your Love and Stop so unforgettable.
Musical style: BRMC drew a lot of unfavourable comparisons to Jesus and Mary Chain, but the Reids themselves have since dismissed this claim as that of 'lazy journalists' (their preference for fuzzy hair, moody interviews and black leather didn't help matters either). Their sexy, feedback laden rock draws on My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, Spacemen 3 and even the Doors.

Favourite songs: I love them all! Although their recent album has received a lukewarm reception, I feel that songs as beautiful as 'Heart & Soul', as elegiac as 'Awake' and as powerful as 'Salvation' really can't be ignored. Their moody, black-clad appearance has nothing whatsoever to do with it. Honest.
Download: 'Love Burns', 'Whatever Happened to my Rock'n' Roll', 'Spread Your Love', 'Stop', 'Six Barrel Shotgun', 'Heart&Soul'

Film of the month
The Virgin Suicides, adapted from the novel by Jeffrey Eugenides, directed by Sofia Coppola (1999)
Starring: James Woods, Kathleen Turner, Josh Hartnett, Kirsten Dunst, Hanna Hall, Chelse Swain, A.J. Cook and Leslie Hayman.

What's the plot?
Five beautiful teenage sisters kill themselves and the neighbourhood boys who are obsessed with them try to find out more. It sounds truly grim, but is in fact a sad bittersweet film about the loss of innocence and first love. Sophia Coppola's outstanding, subtle cinematography invests the film with an ethereal, haunting quality. The performances are excellent, particularly from Kirsten Dunst and Kathleen Turner, and an astonishingly mature turn from Hanna Hall (Cecilia)proves that she is a talent to watch.

My Verdict?
Excellent, though tragic - be prepared to be slightly obsessed by what happened to the girls for a few days afterwards. There isn't a great deal of plot, but the film is buoyed up by the strong performances and the dream-like atmosphere. 4 out of 5.
